State of the Mongoose 2009

Matthew Sprange (aka My Boss)’s annual State of the Mongoose report is up. It pretty much lists all the books I’ll be writing for Mongoose in the months to come. My current project is Deus Vult, about a secret order of demon-hunting monks running around Medieval Europe. I spent part of this morning rewriting Papal Bulls and the Gospel of St. Thomas. I’m also supposed to be doing a supplement for the game at some point…

The other big project is Reavers in Spaaaaace or whatever the current working title is. It’s Sid Meier’s Pirates with laser cannons and jump drives, essentially. I’m hoping to integrate several elements from my current home campaign into that setting.

All that, plus the ton of other supplements and other freelancing, means next year is going to a busy one.

Deus Vult sounds like it might be fun to do…or is it a Da Vinci Code spinoff?

“Roll your dancing! Okay, the governor’s daughter gives you a set of ultrasonic goggles and tells you that a man in a bar on Thraxis IV knows something about where your long-lost uncle is.”

Hey, that Reavers thing sounds super cool: it’s not a board game or nothin’, is it? Just basically a Trav setting? Which’d be cool, don’t get me wrong, just that I’ve been jonesing for a fast, playable “space roguelike” particularly in miniatures or boardgame form for… oh, a long, long time.

It’s a variant Traveller setting, all right.
